How to Make a Wig Look Even More Natural
August 01, 2024
A wig can completely transform your look, whether you’re covering up thinning hair or you simply want to change up your look. One of the challenges you might face is ensuring that the wig looks natural and flows like your own hair. The best way to do this is to take good care of your wig, using the expert tips provided here.
Expert Tips to Make Your Wig Look More Natural
Your wig likely came with a perfect part, which can look unnatural, as most people don’t achieve this look on a day-to-day basis. The recommendation is to pluck the wig’s hairline and create a part that matches your preferences and personal style. Use a pair of tweezers to pull out the individual hairs along the hairline until you create the part you desire. You can do this while you wear the wig for a better idea of the finished look.
You probably use concealer on your face to mask blemishes and the same principle applies on your wig. Applying the product to the inside of the wig, along the part, then place the wig on your head and add a bit more concealer along the part on the outside of the wig. Smooth and blend the concealer, then add a bit of powder to hold it in place. Remember to wash the concealer and powder out of the wig when you take it off to keep it looking its best.
Much the same way that concealer can blend your wig to match your skin color, so too can bronzer. Bronzer is best used once the wig is secured in place and styled. Use a large makeup brush to apply a bit of bronzer along your hairline. Be sure to blend the bronzer to give your face a glow that your wig will highlight without looking out of place.
If you want a perfectly natural look with your wig, a hot comb is a must. Use it to create your desired hairstyle and combat some of the unnatural volume you might experience when you put on a wig. Be sure to follow the directions for heat styling your wig so that you don’t damage or ruin it.
Styling products are a simple way to tame your wig and create the style you want for the day or event you’re wearing it for. Mousse and wax are especially useful on wig hair and can tame flyaways and hold your style in place. Use mousse at the roots of your wig and wax at the ends for the best results. Remember to wash your wig regularly to prevent product buildup, which definitely doesn’t look natural.
